i couldn’t find a stupid disassembly guide for the microsoft basic optical mouse. (yes, it is, indeed, a cheap mouse.) anyway… i found all sorts of things for the intellimouse optical… but nothing for this very basic mouse. two buttons, a scroll wheel (and scroll wheel button)…
anyway.. after i pried it apart, i found the one screw i needed to be able to take it apart. ready?

heh… right underneath the little sticker with all the fcc and ul and whateverelse info. one fscking screw. you have to pull the sticker off the mouse.. or just that small portion, anyway.
now i need to find some superglue to put the tabs that got snapped off back onto this thing.
anyway.. if you were curious, here’s the mouse pulled apart:

real simple. the chunk of metal on the inside of the top of the case is just to make the mouse heavier. to give it some weight. otherwise it would feel reeeal cheap.
i was pulling it apart to see if i can either tighten up the scroll wheel or something. the thing keeps bouncing backward after a slightly forcefull scroll down. so it’s like.. 3-5 scroll clicks down. 1 scroll click up. not exactly disabling but annoying nevertheless. i couldn’t find anything i could do… except use a thicker grease or … maybe even widen the spokes.. but that’d be a total waste of time.
i’ve also found out the mouse has two l.e.d.s… one for the mousing around part, and one for the scroll wheel.
yay for … something.
